Overview
The Day of Week Calculator tells you exactly which day of the week any date falls on, displayed prominently with a matching emoji and color. Additional information includes the day’s zodiac sign, the day number within the year, week number, and days elapsed from today.
How to Use
Use the date picker to select any date, or use the quick buttons (Today, Tomorrow, Yesterday, Next Week, Last Week, +30 Days) for common lookups. The result shows the full day name in large bold text, a weekly strip highlighting the correct day, and a statistics panel with zodiac sign, day of year, ISO week number, and relative distance from today.
Background & Context
Determining the day of the week for any given date is called the Doomsday algorithm when computed mentally. It was developed by mathematician John Conway in 1973 and allows mental calculation of any date’s weekday in seconds. The algorithm exploits the fact that certain easy-to-remember dates always share the same weekday within any given year.
