Overview
The Joke Generator delivers a collection of 30 jokes across four categories — Tech (programming jokes), Dad Jokes, Puns, and One-Liners — with a reveal mechanic that shows the setup first and lets you click to see the punchline, keeping the surprise intact.
How to Use
Click “Next Joke” to load a random joke from all categories, or filter by category using the buttons. The setup appears first. When ready, click “Reveal Punchline” to see the punchline with a smooth animation. React to the joke with one of four emoji buttons . Click “Copy” to share the full joke. The counter shows how many jokes are in the current category.
Background & Context
The psychology of humor has been studied extensively. The “incongruity theory” suggests we find things funny when expectations are violated in a non-threatening way — which is exactly the structure of a good pun or setup/punchline joke. Dad jokes, characterized by groan-worthy puns, have been shown in some studies to help children learn about wordplay and language ambiguity.
